Sasha and Eminem Sitting in a Tree...

Andy Samburg has become a cultural icon the past year...with the YouTube generation perpetuating the shorts that have truly put him on the map. While time will only tell if he will be the SNL comedic icon that Steve Martin, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley etc were to the generations prior to ours...tonight Andy's performance as MC for the MTV Movies Awards definitely will make an impact.

There is no question that shock value equals dollar signs. The more crude and often lude a sketch, short, joke, or sound bite is the more likely it is to run the media magazine shows, gossip blog sites, YouTube, and if you are lucky a spot on CNN's top news stories circuit. (Check CNN's top searches from time to time. It's truly amazing too see what interests our nation; Rhianna is the number one search..octuplets number 8, ironic?) If shock value and soundbites were what MTV was looking for, the dog rubbing himself, and the WTF award will definitely solidify their show's place on the tips of tongues for the week to come.

One of the most memorable, undoubtedly jaw dropping segments of tonight's show was Eminem's face between two butt cheeks. While I appreciate Eminem's immediate swagger, and undeniable talent I am not going to defend him. How can I feel bad for a person who has been climbing the charts by pulling other celebrities down in his most recent songs? Does he deserve an ass in his face for ratings and YouTube playtime in MTV's interest? I laughed at the time...more nervous laughter. I happy I'm not Sasha Baron Cohen and that the days of the hardcore rappers have been replaced by the Kanye's and Weezy's so that as mad as Eminem is there will most probably not be a shoot out..perhaps a strongly worded Tweet is in order?

In the end MTV had nothing to lose, because the reality is that Eminem needs MTV more than they need him. And know that that somewhere Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey, the Kardashians are laughing saying 'Karma is a bitch...and so was Eminem tonight.'

Preemptive Spoiler Warning

While my following at this point in time may not make an significant movement, I move for facebook/twitter to have some sort of spoiler warning. Although most of our favorite shows have come to a close, the few that remain in DVR limbo all too often are ruined by overzealous social networkers that tell me the end before I get to it.

So next time you feel the need to use your social networking outlet to vent...either call a friend or start with SPOILER ALERT.

It's Just My Thing

I'm pretty secure in my statement that OCD is the new black. Not in an insensitive way but I wholeheartedly feel that currently everyone's odd little quirks, rituals, and then full-blown neurosis are being embraced and brought to the forefront...and not just among friends or Dr. Gupta on CNN.

Everyone has their thing...whether it be checking your alarm clock 10 times even when you know the time is correct, or getting out of bed to make sure the oven is off or the door is locked, maybe you have to ding everyone's glass when you do a cheers among friends. Most of the time, if noticed or discussed the accused nut usually just shrugs and says, "i dunno, i know it's weird and doesn't make sense, it's just my thing..."

What's your thing? What is your odd ritual that may be dismissed by others but remains part of your core? Share, comment away!

Working towards the Pandora Pandemic

I have officially made the switch. My days of YouTube musical channel listening and subsequent clickage of the side bar are over. In a quest to find a song I heard once on the radio I found myself googling, tweeting, status updating in search of the mystery personal anthem, of which i remember nothing of the artist or a single word. The most recent attempt effort brought me to Pandora. It's really one of those things where I throughly believe the pandora gods are going to magically play the song I have been searching for.

While I have been waiting for the ultimate twist in musical fate I really have been reminded of some old friends and have been pleasantly brought back to middle school..summer '97..and even dare I say my NOW 4 CD?

So if you are looking for a way to get through the next 2 hours and change until the 5 o'clock Friedhay whistle I suggest Pandora...

Oh the horr-ora before Pandora.

Cocktails for Cancer

Hiro at the Maritime Hotel was a delightful venue for the charity event I attended last night. It was refreshing not having to be shoulder to shoulder, clammy arm to clammy arm...I enjoyed being able to do the casual drink spin without spilling on anyone.

It was a really great group of people, everyone seemed to be so happy. Maybe everyone was on a natural high horse...everyone there..for the cause..doing their part to help pediatric cancer; oh and the three hour open bar helped the friendly factor.
